So You May Breathe In Light is an opera about an Explorer (baritone) guided by a Healer (mezzo-soprano) through his inner world to confront his shame and transform his relationship with the world. As the Explorer explores his thoughts, he uncovers a painful memory of hurting someone, leading him to believe he is inherently harmful. The Healer encourages him to face his Shadow, the dark part of himself he has avoided, only to discover that the Shadow is a neglected aspect of his Loving Self (soprano). This realization allows the Explorer to begin healing, learning to embrace love and connection instead of self-imposed isolation.
